All That Is French...........

When I asked Kim if she would allow a blog tour of her home, she did not hesitate to respond positively.  Kim had been a frequent visitor to my shop and I always enjoyed her visits.  Needless to say, I was so excited to go back inside..   I had been in their home a few times before during The Village Kitchen Walk and as a  guest in their home socially.  I knew it was a place I would be delighted to share with all of you. Kim and her husband,  in the early stages of planning their French country home, were certain that they would provide as much authenticity as they were able.  Kim's files had been growing as she anticipated her dream home and what it would look like. She and her husband took quite a few trips to the French countryside and examined roof lines, doorways, windows, fireplaces, stairways, banisters and ceilings. ( In fact, the foyer ceiling was inspired from a tour to the Pope's Palace in Avignon)  More on this surprising fact  later.  A true passion and love of  French culture and architecture left nothing amiss.   Their architect, while extremely talented, was working with a couple that was able to provide a shared enthusiasm with detail for what was French.  Kim and her husband had become experts of a wish list of coveted secrets of French design that they had experienced up close and personally.

It was the day after Halloween and if you look closely, you will note the spider webs..
I am quite confidant that they were not trasported from a French barnyard........

As you come up closer to the home you see the details and from afar roof lines that reach for the sky

There are a pair of these seasonal urns at the entrance.....in their full glory and splendor..... ..........

As I rang the door bell in anticipation of my visit, I looked over and there it was, a real French mailbox.  If you look closely, you will see an opening in the mailbox that says, Mardi.  That is the French word for Monday............yes, it was a Monday that I was there.  The French are known for their details and so is Kim!
As I was met and greeted by Kim and a chat or two, we proceded down the grand hallway to this
wonderful courtyard.  It was still as beautiful as I had remembered ..............

This part of the courtyard shows the entrance to le salon.............we will visit that soon.

Through the arched doorway, the Great Room
The grand window box is below a kitchen window
and the door to the left is the entrance to
the breakfast room

A close up of the kitchen window and entrance

My next post will take us inside this wonderful home where Kim was so gracious in explaining her French 'finds' and the placement of those wonderful antiques.  I promise it will be a treat!  She is so talented and has carried out so much of what is inside this beautiful home..................

Always, Mary Anne
